We are looking for a skilled Metallurgist to join our client, a manufacturer of underground roof drill bits, miner bits, and manufacturing bits. This role requires independent judgment and analysis to ensure products meet both internal and external requirements, including legal compliance and customer specifications. Key Responsibilities:
- Support the quality management system by applying ISO processes and ASTM specifications; coordinate resources within the Quality department to assist plants/operations.
- Provide technical support to the Operations department, including input for plant/manufacturing changes, product quality, and new machinery capabilities.
- Collaborate with the Purchasing department on raw material reviews, non-conforming material, and new product quality requirements; work with external suppliers to develop components or raw materials.
- Assist the Sales department with technical support for field sales representatives, job bids, and customer complaint resolution; visit customer sites for product issue evaluations or testing support.
- Design components and provide technical advice on the suitability of metals for various applications; make recommendations on product feasibility and support new product testing.
- Contribute technical expertise to Continuous Improvement projects, including new equipment, testing, and document control.
- Lead Root Cause Corrective Actions for process and part deviations or quality failures.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Material Science, Metallurgy or Related Engineering Field, Required
- Minimum Ten (10) Years Material Science or Metallurgical Experience, Required
- Experience with Tungsten Cobalt Powder Formulation, Pressing, and Sintering
- HIP Sintering Experience, A Plus
- Experience in Wear Tool Design
- Experience with Carbide Brazing Processes
- Knowledge of Cutting Tools and Applications, A Plus
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Competent, personable listening, verbal, and written communication skills and high degree of independent judgment and analysis to collaborate with cross-functional teams to reach joint decisions regarding effective functioning of quality management system and to effectively write routine correspondence, create presentations, and complete required reporting functions
- Proficient information gathering and monitoring skills to facilitate effective, unbiased decision-making and problem-solving functions
- Ability to anticipate needs, set goals/standards and measure results with complementing ability to effectively adapt to changing situations, unexpected issues, and varied job demands
- Good organizational skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously to completion
- Good leadership skills to interface with interdepartmental corporate personnel and plant management/supervisory personnel to advise and implement appropriate changes to quality management system and to provide training, tools and techniques to enable others to achieve quality standards
- Proficient math skills and technical capacity with ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms.
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and applicable quality management system software
