Overview
The Associate Scientist will be primarily responsible for the bioanalysis of samples and will follow validated or experimental bioanalytical procedures, to perform assays and support pharmaceutical product development, testing and evaluation in a GLP regulatory laboratory environment. The employee will use state-of-the-art technologies/techniques to perform top-quality sample analysis and testing for key pharmaceutical and biotech clients across the industry.
Responsibilities
- Under minimal supervision, individual performs routine laboratory techniques and more difficult procedures with limited supervision (e.g. in vivo biological sample processing, HPLC analysis, in vitro metabolism incubations and assays, radiolabel isotope 14C and 3H handling).
- Receives specific instructions on assigned task and expected results.
- Delivers accurate results on assigned tasks within the expected timeframe.
- May assume the duty as a trainer to new hires.
- Has a thorough understanding of the study and method; troubleshoots unexpected results.
- Maintains research notebooks in a well-organized manner. All necessary documentation is recorded.
- Performs routine calculations; tabulates and records results.
- Reviews routine calculations and records. Prepares standard solutions used in the laboratory.
- Prepares accurate data summary with minimal or no supervision.
- Maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment.
- Complies with all safety rules, practices good housekeeping, and maintains safe workplace without supervision.
- Learns and enhances technical knowledge of pharmaceutical areas, DMPK, ADME, In Life, Metabolism, and Bioanalysis.
- Participates in writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and suggests practical changes.
- Is proficient in sample processing, sample analysis, and has completed training on routine scientific techniques.
- Follows company’s safety policies, practices and procedures in order to maintain a safe work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Job Requirements
Experience / Education:
- Bachelor's degree and >3 years related experience; or Associate’s degree and >10 years related experience; Master’s degree and 0 years related experience; or equivalent education, or work equivalent experience, and training.
- Any similar combination of education and experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Has a developing proficiency in scientific discipline and demonstrates a solid understanding of experiments
- Has a developing understanding of relevant technical aspects as well as literature and data base searching
- Works on assignments that are complex in nature in which judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems
- Advanced knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within drug discovery and development R&D laboratory settings
- Well organized, detail oriented, and adaptable to changes
- Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Good time management skill in order to perform of multiple projects within deadlines
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Follow and adhere to nonGLP guidelines/SOPs
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in an office environment with minimal noise conditions.
- Must be able to work in lab setting with exposure to biohazards / chemicals (common organic solvents)
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
- Must be able to work in environment with variable noise levels
- Ability to stand /sit / walk for long periods of time
- Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach
- Ability to lift 10 lbs routinely
- Ability to push/pull 10 lbs routinely/ often / occasionally
- Clarity of vision
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions
